Re: Bomber Command
If the UK had not entered the war as France and Russia's ally, irrespective of France's totally reckless warmongering, we would have been left with a Europe properly dominated by Germany quite possibly to this day.

So good job the UK did, otherwise not only would we have a continental economic superpower to contend with today but a military one as well. Meanwhile, the UK would have been embroiled in constant conflicts as its far-flung empire span out of control, and certainly there would have been a horrible war with Imperial Japan in East Asia and the Pacific. I suppose the Australians would have slitty eyes today...

We've been through all this before. Infidel's interpretation of the facts is at odds with virtually everybody else's except the Nazi revisionist historians of the 1930s.

Hellstorm: The documentary
For those of you too young to have ever spoken to any of the veterans of bomber command and instead get your Hollywood version of history, this should be a real eye opener, with actual witness testimony and evidence, something rather lacking in the Hollywood approved version of history

Re: Bomber Command
Germany was a civilised nation in 1914.

If it had been civilised enough, not to invade neutral Belgium, then Britain wouldn't have got involved in the war.

So civilised, it brought naval shelling of British civilians,
aerial bombing of civilians and the use of poison gas to the table.

Re: Bomber Command
jfk

With respect, the first world war was not fought 'to defend us against tyranny.'

It was fought because Grey and Asquith made a colossal blunder and committed us to a conflict that was nothing to do with us.

If Britain had not joined the French and Russians in 1914 the war would have been over in a few months, with Germany and Austria victorious, a peace treaty signed and everyone back to their usual seats.

Germany was a civilised nation in 1914. It was not a tyranny and by the way did not want a war. It was the machinations of France that turned a bit of local trouble in the Balkans into a catastrophe.

"We should have agreed and come to a treaty with Germany..."

Er, no, we shouldn't. Well, certainly not second time around. Of all the wars ever fought, this was perhaps the only one that was genuinely about right and wrong.

You can slag Churchill all you like, and there's plenty of literature to suggest he was a drunk, but thank Christ he turned up. Without him, you'd have been typing that bollocks in either German or Russian.

Fucking hell norm.
The two world wars, where thousands upon thousands of young brave British soldiers perished wasn't fought in vain.
It was fought against tyranny and defending a free world.
Thanks to them we live in relatively peaceful democratic society.

The first world war knackered us...the second finished us off...and for what?
The yanks have owned us ever since.
We should have agreed and come to a treaty with Germany...but the overated Churchill chose ego over praticality.
And that has doomed us to our fate.

Bomber Harris isn't sung in glory.

Harris was a cunt for his actions..dresden was raised to the ground

Re: Bomber Command
Well i'm off to bed now, bruno i'm not defending Harris, just saying a lot of posters on here are saying there was no military need to bomb Dresden, i am totally familiar with the argument for saying that the bombing of Dresden was a stain on our country.

'How can you compare that with Dresden?'

'By February 1945 The German Army had already been defeated and was in full retreat. The Luftwaffe had been destroyed or grounded and the skies belonged to the USAF and RAF. So many regular troops had been lost that boys of 15 and men in their sixties were drafted to the front, where they were slaughtered.'

Erm... ok, I'll give it a go

By August 1945 the Japanese Navy had been destroyed and the Japanese Army had already been defeated and was in full retreat. The Japanese Air Force had been destroyed or grounded and the skies belonged to the USAF. So many regular troops had been lost that boys of 15 and men in their sixties were drafted to the front, where they were slaughtered.

Close enough?
